About me
I am currently a PhD student at Brunel University London of the Bridger Lab Group headed
by Dr Joanna Bridger. My research involves ovarian cancer chromosome and gene
positioning whilst manipulating them to combat late diagnosis, multi-drug resistance and
drug toxicity. Setting my foundation, I undertook a BSc in Biochemistry at the University of
West Indies and MSc in Biotechnology at the University of Bedfordshire, where I started my
research in Ovarian Cancer under Dr Adam Paige.
My Passion in ovarian cancer stems from a personal family history of the disease, putting me at an advantage to the real concerns every victim is presented with from diagnosis to terminal stage. I am focusing on working with the interest of all stakeholders from the patient to the academics to the industry. While one is often centred, a balance amongst all stakeholders is key for every party to move forward. I'm always interested in a challenge to work in every sector, to learn the concerns at each stage, whilst developing myself into a cycle to fuel my passion and others.
I recently won the BUL Vice Chancellor travel award which I highly attribute to realising what conditions I work best at. I'm able to be a full-time wife, mother as well as a PhD student only due to being able (thanks to my supervisor and husband) to design my work conditions to suit. To do this, I focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance through nature, travelling, cooking and family time with my husband Matt and daughter Summer (who has already served 9 months in the lab doing a PhD with momma!).
